Five Steps to the Perfect Picnic

Are you heading out for a picnic this weekend? After months of lockdown,  Sydneysiders are digging out the picnic basket, dusting off the extra large rug and keeping our fingers crossed for good weather.

But before you rush out for a picnic lunch, brunch or dinner, consider my top tips for the perfect picnic.

1. Location, location, location

Even when you're restricted to a 5km radius, Australia is blessed with an abundance of perfect picnic locations. In fact, at this time of year, with the scent of Jasmine in the air, even the park at the end of the road would make a good spot.

Having said that, it's worth thinking about places where there is plenty of space for good social distancing.

2. Add some style

Picnic chic

Some new picnicware can up the ante in terms of picnic chic and Sunnylife is here for you. New to the Sans Drinks Lifestyle section, Sunnylife are one of the world's most popular summertime brand.

You'll need an incredible basket, wine cooler or backpack and you're all set.

3. Consider outsourcing the food

Food can make or break a picnic, so it's worth thinking through the best options. If you support a local cafe or restaurant by buying a premade picnic platter then you get a wonderful win/win.

Alternatively, why not delegate one item to each person attending the picnic - even little kids can make a  sandwich.

4. Non alcoholic drinks all round

Non alcoholic drinks are ideal for picnics. You can drink non alcoholic wine, mocktails and non alcoholic beer all day long - and still drive home.

Here are my top picks for picnics.

If you've perfected the social picnic then you'll want to stay all day. The one thing I learned running Nourished Life is how important sunscreen is. Don't forget to bring along a tube of your favourite sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses - you don't want to end a glorious day with a burnt nose.
