6 best non-alcoholic sauvignon blanc you need to try

Jan 02, 2023

When I’m heading out to a friend's place and I’m not sure what type of wine to take, I always opt for a Sauvignon Blanc. Not only is it one of the most popular types of white wine in Australia — but it’s also highly refreshing, easy to drink and pairs well with a wide variety of foods. In other words, it's a safe bet.

Grapes used to make sauvignon blanc wine hanging from a vine

Although many of us think of Sauvignon Blanc as an Australian or New Zealand wine, the Sauvignon Blanc grape actually originated in the French Loire Valley more than 500 years ago. Since then, the grape has been introduced to other regions, but while Marlborough in New Zealand and Adelaide Hills in South Australia are famous for producing Sauvignon Blanc, France is still considered the spiritual home of this iconic wine.

When it comes to non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc, there are plenty to choose from. Winemakers from the best Sauvignon Blanc wine regions in the world have crafted non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc wines, so we’re truly spoiled for choice. But with so many options, it can be difficult to know where to begin.

In this guide, I’m going to introduce you to the best Sauvignon Blanc options in the non-alcoholic wine space and tell you what to pair them with.

1. 1920 Wines Non-Alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc

The product

1920 Wines is a boutique, family-run winery based in South Australia. Since launching in 2021, they’ve quickly become known for having the best non-alcoholic white wine Australia produces. The 1920 Wines Non-Alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes harvested in the cool of the night.

The taste

This non-alcoholic wine has all the characteristics you would expect in a Sauvignon Blanc. It features aromas of tropical fruit salad and has a well-balanced mouthfeel and some refreshing acidity on the finish.

Worth noting

This Australian made wine is vegan-friendly and contains just 2.7g of sugar per 100 ml. At 20 calories per 100 ml it has fewer calories than a traditional Sauvignon Blanc

Try this

Because the 1920 Wines Non-Alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc is a fruity Sauvignon Blanc, it pairs well with spicy Mexican food. Try serving it alongside quesadillas and homemade guacamole — the tropical fruit notes in your 1920 Sauvignon Blanc will mellow down the spice in the food.

What customers are saying

“This is the best non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc. Pleasant tasting, not too sweet and really enjoyable. Will buy again.”

2. Giesen 0% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

The product

Giesen is an award-winning winery based in the iconic Marlborough region of New Zealand’s South Island. The Giesen 0% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is an alcohol-removed version of Giesen’s premium full-strength Sauvignon Blanc wine. They recently won Best Winemaker at the Winepilot Zero Alcohol Wine Show, a sure sign that their non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc is as good as their original Sauvignon Blanc

The taste

Giesen 0% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has a citrus character with aromas of fresh lime and lemon shortbread. It has a crisp, dry finish, with a touch of classic Sauvignon Blanc acidity.

Worth noting

If you are keen on sticking to a low-calorie wine, then this is one of the best non-alcoholic wine options. At 13 calories per 100 ml, Giesen O% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has 80% fewer calories than a traditional alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc.

If you enjoy pasta and non-alcoholic wine pairings, this is one to note. Because Giesen 0% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a citrusy Sauvignon Blanc, it pairs beautifully with simple pasta dishes. Think olive oil, lemon, fresh tomatoes and greens.

What customers are saying

“The best non-alcoholic wine I’ve tried, and I’ve tried loads! Very distinctly a Sauvignon Blanc, decent acid and all around a very enjoyable drink. As close to the real thing as it gets.”

3. Ara Zero Sauvignon Blanc

The product

In addition to the Giesen 0% range, Giesen is also the winemaker responsible for Ara Zero. Ara Zero Sauvignon Blanc is produced in the Marlborough region and has all the classic hallmarks of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Worth noting

This non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc is low in calories (18 calories per 100 ml) and contains 3g of sugar per 100 ml.

Try this

You might think Sauvignon Blanc is best paired with savoury dishes, but a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc such as Ara Zero works really well with tart and tangy desserts. Try serving it alongside a passionfruit and mango pavlova — the acidity in the non-alcoholic wine will cut through the cream and enhance the fruit flavours.

What customers are saying

“I've tried a few and this one is the best non-alcoholic wine I have tried — hands down. The others were sweet but this actually tastes like wine.”

The product

Based in the Barossa Valley, one of the most iconic Australian wine regions, Wolf Blass is an award-winning winery and a household name. Try this

With its herbaceous notes, this is the best non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc to serve with dishes that feature fresh herbs. Try a glass of Wolf Blass Zero Sauvignon Blanc alongside a green herb salad with coriander, basil, dill and mint. The herb flavours will bring out the grassy notes in the wine.
