What is vegan wine?
Vegan wine is wine that has been made without the use of animal products. While wine is made from grapes, some traditional wine making agents are not vegan friendly. For example, egg whites or casein (a milk protein) can be used to remove tiny particles of sediment in wine that can’t be removed via filtration. Other animal products include beeswax, which is sometimes used to seal bottles, and agglomerated corks, which use milk-based glues. Why isn’t all wine vegan?
Vegan wine and non-vegan wine are exactly the same – they’re both made with grapes with the same wine-making techniques. The difference is that non-vegan wine uses animal products at later stages of the process. For example non vegan wine-makers might use egg whites or casein (a milk protein) to remove sediment. Vegan wine is wine that has been made without the use of animal products at any stage of the wine making process. Vegan alcohol free wine is both vegan and zero alcohol.
How can you tell if a wine is vegan?
