FAQ About Pale Ale Non-Alcoholic Beer
What is Pale Ale?
Pale Ale tends to be a golden or amber coloured ale that has been brewed with ale yeast and pale malt. Pale Ale has been around for centuries with the term first appearing in 1703. The first Pale Ales were made from malts and dry roasted with coke (a type of fuel that is hard, porous and has a high carbon content) a process that resulted in a lighter coloured beer. Alcohol free Pale Ale is Pale Ale that has been made without alcohol.
What is the best non-alcoholic Pale Ale?
We stock a huge variety of non-alcoholic pale ales here at Sans Drinks, including several award winning beers including the Heaps Normal Quiet XPA, Hop Nation Opening Doors Hazy Pale Ale, Beneficial Beer Co Wagon Drivers Pale Ale, which is a combination of hops and Australian malts, and many more. However, the best Pale Ale is one that you enjoy. We recommend reading through our extensive customer reviews to help you make your selection. For example, a recent review of Hop Nation Opening Doors Hazy Pale Ale said, “Delicious. I am not normally a great fan of the fruity beers but this one is a winner. I had been out in the garden and it is a hot day and this went down a treat.”
What does non-alcoholic Pale Ale taste like?
Non-alcoholic Pale Ale tastes just like regular Pale Ale. While the exact flavour varies from brand to brand, non-alcoholic Pale Ale is often described as an ‘easy drinking’ beer. We recommend that you read through our product descriptions for a good indication of what each Pale Ale in our selection tastes like. For example, Alcohol Free Mornington Pale Ale is described as a classic Pale Ale with aromas of passionfruit and citrus and a full-bodied mouthfeel.
What is the difference between Pale Ale and IPA?
IPA (India Pale Ale) is technically a type of Pale Ale, so there is only a subtle difference between the two. The biggest difference is that IPA is hoppier than Pale Ale. One potential reason for this is that India Pale Ale was specifically made to ship to English civil servants and employees of the East India Trading company who were stationed in India and missed beer from home. Beer makers were concerned that the beer would become spoiled on the journey so added additional hops and alcohol. When it comes to alcohol free IPA and Pale, the main difference to note is the level of hoppiness.
How is alcohol-free Pale Ale made?
Non alcoholic Pale Ale goes through the same brewing process as regular Pale Ale (making a mash, boiling the wort, adding hops and fermenting). However, prior to bottling, non alcoholic Pale Ale needs to have its alcohol removed. There are several popular methods for doing this such as vacuum distilling and reverse osmosis. Some beer makers skip de-alcoholisation altogether by using methods such as zero fermentation and limited fermentation and some beer makers use a special strain of yeast that has been developed to avoid fermentation.
