No one knows the exact origins of the Mojito. Some historians believe that it dates back to 1586 when it was used as a medicinal drink. In fact, according to the story, an early version of the Mojito was named the Draque, after Sir Frances Drake who was sent to Havana by Queen Elizabeth 1.
The Draque consisted of aguardiente, a crude cane spirit that eventually evolved into rum, sugar, lime and mint. The Draque became the Mojito when Don Fecund Bacardi Masso established the Bacardi company.
However, local ledged has it that the first Mojito was created in Bodeguita del Medio, a bar in Havana. The bar also boasts a sign, apparently hand-written by Ernest Hemingway, that reads, "My Mojito in La Bodeguita My Daiquiri in El Floridita."
Introducing Ms Sans Mojito
The history of Ms Sans Mojito is much easier to explain. While there were cocktail mixers available, customers kept telling me that they were confused about what non-alcoholic spirit to add to them. The Ms Sans collection is pre-mixed with my own non-alcoholic spirits so that mocktail making is as fuss-free as possible.
Ms Sans Mojito is pre-mixed with non-alcoholic rum. It's made in Australia, has no added sugar (it's sweetened with a natural fruit extract) and it's also low in calories.
