Guide to the best lemon-inspired non-alcoholic cocktails to try

Feb 20, 2023

It’s no secret I’m passionate about natural ingredients. So when it comes to cocktail recipes I need to shake up for guests or myself, I just can’t go past ones that use delicious fresh produce as the star.

For these lemon mocktail recipes, I’m giving you plenty of alternatives to gin cocktails, tequila cocktails and vodka cocktails where lemon is the star. Whatever your spirit of choice normally is, prepare to meet its delicious non-alcoholic match.

Lemon mocktails to suit any taste

In my search to find and produce the best non-alcoholic spirits in Australia, I always keep in mind how I’d like to enjoy them. Unsurprisingly, lemon cocktails are high on my list! They’re naturally flavoured and I can easily tweak the cocktail recipe to suit anyone and everyone’s taste. Whatever your spirit of choice is, I know I’ve got the perfect non-alcoholic lemon cocktail recipe to fill your next glass!

1. French 75 Mocktail

I’m kicking off this list of lemon-based mocktails with a sparkling number because it never fails to get me in the mood for a party. This French classic was first invented in Paris during World War I, and it really relies on a high-quality gin. Fortunately, my Sans Bar London dry gin is the perfect non-alcoholic spirit alternative to produce a perfectly balanced French 75.

Ingredients

Method

Pour 50ml of Sans Bar Notting Hill Stroll into a champagne flute, then add 20ml of fresh lemon juice and 20ml of sugar syrup. Stir the ingredients gently together before topping with Thomson & Scott Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.

Pro tip

Create a lemon twist by cutting a thin strip of lemon peel and wrapping it around a chopstick. You can also infuse this cocktail with all sorts of herbs and aromatics to give your mocktail recipe an extra kick.

2. Lemon Drop Mocktail

What is a mocktail without a bit of glamour? I serve this sweet and sour lemon drop in a long-stemmed glass for some extra elegance.

Ingredients

Method

Rim the edge of a long-stemmed cocktail glass with a lemon wedge. Then, combine the non-alcoholic vodka, triple sec, lemon juice and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into the chilled glass and garnish with a lemon slice.

Pro tip

You can easily buy sugar syrup but it’s also simple to make at home. Just add 200g of sugar and 240ml of water to a saucepan, bring to a boil, then simmer until all the sugar is dissolved.

3. Long Island Iced Tea

As far as cocktails with lemon go, this used to be a favourite of mine. The problem is, the alcoholic version of this mocktail is far from refreshing and I much prefer the alcohol-free version for staying hydrated in style!

Ingredients

  • 40ml Ms Sans Make Me A Sanstini
  • 40ml Sans Bar Notting Hill Stroll
  • 40ml Sans Bar Caribbean Getaway
  • 250ml premium cola
  • Ice
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • Sprigs of fresh mint

Method

Add all the ingredients except for the sliced lemon and mint into a cocktail shaker. Shake well, and strain into a highball or martini glass. To serve, garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint.

Pro tip

Sometimes the mood strikes you and you need a vodka cocktail. I always keep my bottle of Sans Bar Make Me a Sanstini vodka alternative in the freezer so I can easily enjoy an ice-cold drink should I fancy one.

4. Blood Orange Lemonade

Talk about looking the part. This is one of the best mocktails for guests who prefer their lemon cocktail on the milder side, plus it looks absolutely stunning. The blood orange adds a mellow sweetness and you still get a subtle lemon flavour thanks to StrangeLove Fancy Lemonade.

Ingredients

Method

Add 60ml Ms Sans Sunset In A Bottle into a glass of your choice, then top with StrangeLove Fancy Lemonade to fill the glass. Top with a slice of blood orange for colour and an extra citrus hit.

Pro tip

This is a super simple lemon cocktail so feel free to experiment! Try blitzing some dried blood orange in the blender and using it as a citrussy rim that’ll excite your taste buds and eyes.

5. Tequila Sour Mocktail

One of my favourite ever tequila cocktails is a sour – perfectly tart but with a gorgeous, light texture thanks to the egg white or aquafaba foam. Yum!

Ingredients

  • 60ml Ms Sans Bring a Sombrero
  • 30ml lemon juice
  • 15ml agave syrup
  • 25ml aquafaba (the vegan liquid found in tinned chickpeas) or egg white
  • Bitters
  • A wedge of lemon
  • A single Maraschino cherry

Method

Add ice and all the ingredients except for the lemon wedge and Maraschino cherry into a cocktail shaker. Shake well, until the mixture is foamy. Strain into a chilled glass, and garnish with lemon and a Maraschino cherry.

Pro tip

If you’re not a fan of Maraschino cherries, you can also use Italian Amarena cherries. They are less sugary and have a more nuanced flavour that’s perfect to use in all the best mocktail recipes.
