Guide to Two Hoots’ non-alcoholic wines

Nov 14, 2022

I’m passionate about helping my customers find non-alcoholic wines that they love, so I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting brands. The standard of non-alcoholic wine has improved dramatically in recent years, with many winemakers recognising that it’s important to start with premium wine so that after de-alcoholisation, the non-alcoholic wine that’s left is still high quality. Crucially, a premium wine means premium grapes.

This is something that Two Hoots wines, from South Africa, takes very seriously. Two Hoots wines are made from grapes that have been grown in the Coastal Region of the Western Cape. The grapes are picked at full maturity and gently pressed as part of a slow fermentation process. On top of this, the use of low yielding vineyards means that the grapes have a higher concentration of flavour which translates into a flavoursome full-bodied wine.

The next step is to remove the alcohol. This is done with a vacuum spinning cone, a process that removes the alcohol without damaging the integrity of the wine. The result? Well, you’ll notice the difference when you try Two Hoots wine — it’s bursting with flavour!

At the moment there are three Two Hoots wines available, a non-alcoholic Chenin Blanc, a non-alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon and a non-alcoholic Rosé. I’m delighted that Two Hoots has chosen Sans Drinks as their exclusive stockist. In this exclusive guide, I’m going to tell you more about them and explain why I think Two Hoots has become one of the best non-alcoholic wine brands on the market.

Two Hoots non-alcoholic Rosé

This has become a personal favourite, in fact, I’d go as far as saying that this is one of the best non-alcoholic rose wines I have ever tried. After the fermentation process that I mentioned above, the wine is allowed to remain on the lees for up to 3 weeks — this gives it an additional complexity which is very noticeable in the glass.

The taste

This non-alcoholic Rosé has a crisp, dry flavour profile and features aromas of wild strawberry and rose petals along with some herb and citrus notes.

Worth noting

Low in calories (17 calories per 100mls) and low in sugar (1.9g per 100mls).

Best served

This beautiful non-alcoholic Rosé is perfect as an aperitif on a warm summer day. It pairs well with light dishes such as salads. This wine is best served chilled at 10 to 14 degrees Celsius in a glass with a narrow bowl and a long stem. This will bring out the fruity aromas of the wine and help maintain the cool temperature.

What customers are saying

“This Rosé was really lovely, not too sweet at all, and delightful to drink. Will absolutely order again.

“Lovely dry rose, very close to the real thing. Would go well as a summer drink or also with a number of lighter dishes, like chicken or fish. Really enjoyed this one.”

Two Hoots non-alcoholic Chenin Blanc

This was the first non-alcoholic Chenin Blanc in the Sans Drinks store and I’ve been blown away by the response. Many customers have told me that it’s the best non-alcoholic white wine they’ve tried. In the crafting of this wine, Two Hoots fermented the Chennin Blanc grapes at temperatures of between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius for a long, slow fermentation process which helps create a full mouthfeel.

The taste

This non-alcoholic white wine is crisp and fruity and features aromas of freshly cut grass along with notes of citrus.

Worth noting

Low in calories (17 calories per 100mls) and low in sugar (2g per 100mls).

Best served

Enjoy as a pre-dinner drink or with a meal. Chenin Blanc is a varietal that is known for its acidity so it pairs well with rich flavours such as quince, nuts and honey. Serve chilled to 7 to 10 degrees Celsius in a classic white wine glass. This will preserve the fruity flavours of the wine by keeping it at optimal temperature.

What customers are saying

“Crisp, dry, refreshing and flavoursome. Non-alc wine can be so hit and miss but this one is a definite hit!”

“A really enjoyable and authentic Chenin Blanc. Easy to forget you're drinking a zero-alcohol wine!”

Two Hoots non-alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon

This non-alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon is everything you would expect from the varietal — full-bodied and dry, characterised by dark fruit flavours. After the fermentation process, Two Hoots leaves this wine in the fermentation tank with the skins for another 2 weeks. This ensures integration and full development of the tannin structure.

The taste

This non-alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon has a robust mouthfeel, with rich tannins and features notes of sun-ripened cherries, unsweetened dark chocolate and plum.

Worth noting

Low in calories (17 calories per 100mls) and low in sugar (2.5g per 100mls).

Best served

Perfect for a cosy night on the sofa, Two Hoots non-alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with hearty stews and tomato based dishes. Serve slightly below room temperature by chilling in the fridge for 15 minutes before serving. To allow aeration to occur, serve this non-alcoholic red wine in a bowl shaped glass.

What customers are saying

Best non-alcoholic red wine of all I have tried so far. For me to actually order a case of 6 says a lot, do give this one a try!”

“Very happy with my purchase, this is a fantastic zero alcohol red wine. Smooth, unsweetened and with a very pleasant aftertaste.”

Two Hoots wine is definitely a brand to watch — still in their first year they are already ranking as one of the best non-alcoholic wine brands in my alcohol-free bottle shop. If you are as impressed as I am, sign up to my loyalty club and leave a review — I can’t wait to hear what you think!
