7 Non-Alcoholic Gins You Need To Know About

If you love a gin and tonic as much as I do then you will be excited to hear about the latest wave of non-alcoholic gin.

With so many new non-alcoholic spirits launching, I've put together a quick guide to the 7 new non-alcoholic gins you need to know about - some are new, some oldies but goodies. Plus, for each gin substitute, I've adding some of my favourite recipes for easy to create gin mocktails

Gordon's Alcohol Free 0.0

The blurb: Established in London in 1769, Gordon’s Gin is a household name and a bestseller around the world.   

The taste: Gordon’s 0.0 has the same iconic flavour their original gin, with a flavour profile featuring bold juniper notes and a subtle hints of citrus. 

Worth noting: Free from sugar and low calorie with just 6 calories per 100mls

If you're making gin mocktails try: 

Southside Mocktail 

If you like mojito mocktails you will love this mojito gin twist. 

Ingredients:

- 50ml Gordon's Alcohol Free 0.0
- 20ml lime juice 
- 15ml sugar syrup 
- Small handful of mint leaves, plus extra to garnish 

Method: 

Combine the ingredients in a shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a mint leaf.  

Banks & Burbidge Alcohol-Free Distilled Gin

The blurb: Banks & Burbidge is made in Brisbane using traditional gin distilling techniques and a minimum of 60 per cent Juniper botanical ingredients. 

The tasteNotes of spice, citrus and tangy notes of dried chilli peppers. 

Worth noting: Sugar free and zero calories.

If you're making easy gin mocktails try: 

Negroni bianco mocktail  

A fresh take on the classic Negroni.  

Ingredients: 

30ml Banks & Burbidge Alcohol-Free Distilled Gin
30ml Dry Vermouth alternative such as Lyre's Aperitif Dry
30ml Triple Sec alternative such as Lyre's Orange Sec

Method: 

Build over ice in a tumbler and stir. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.  

Vera Spirit Ginø

Vera Gino is a premium alt-gin

The blurb: Founded in Slovenia, Vera was inspired by travel on the Mediterranean coast.

The taste: The Vera Spirit flavour profile features citrus along with floral notes of orange zest, red grapefruit and cardamom seeds. With earthy and piney notes, dried angelica gives Gino spirit a long herbal and bitter finish. 

Worth noting: Zero sugar

A two ingredient gin sour. 

Ingredients: 

75 ml Vera Spirit Ginø
25ml lime cordial 
lime wheel to garnish 

Method: 

Pour ingredients into a mixing glass with some ice cubes and stir well. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with lime wheel. 

Pentire Seaward

Pentire Seaward non alcoholic gin

The blurb: Crafted on the rugged headlands of North Cornwall, England, this new non alcoholic gin is both invigorating and replenishing.

The taste: Pentire Seaward features top notes of zesty grapefruit along with refreshing green natural tones and subtle hints of berry.

Worth noting: Contains vitamin C, seabuckthorn and minerals from wild seaweed.

If you're making easy gin mocktails try: 

Pentire Seaward Grapefruit Spritz

A modern twist on the classic gin spritz. 

Ingredients: 

75ml Pentire Seaward
50ml Fresh Grapefruit Juice
1 tsp Honey
100ml Soda Water or Light Tonic

Method: 

Pour the ingredients listed above into a white wine glass full of ice and garnish with grapefruit wedge and/or bay leaf.
 Hellfire Bluff Non alc gin

Hellfire Bluff Inspirit Non-Alcoholic Pink Gin

The blurb: The Hellfire Distillery was established in Tasmania in 2017, with a vision of creating high quality small batch, craft spirits.

The taste:  The Hellfire Bluff taste profile includes juniper and citrus botanicals balanced with notes of Tasmanian blackcurrants and a hint of Szechuan pepper and pimento on the finish. 

Worth noting: 6 calories and 1.2g of sugar per 100ml.

Spicy Pink Gin Spritz 

Ingredients: 

50ml Hellfire Bluff Inspirit Non-Alcoholic Pink Gin
100ml Soda water 
dash sugar syrup
Grapefruit slice to garnish  

Method: 

Pour all the ingredients into a white wine glass with some ice cubes and stir. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.  

Lyre's Dry London Spirit

Lyre's non-alc gin is a winner

The blurb: Lyre’s is a premium, award-winning range of Australian made non-alcoholic spirits. 

The taste: Lyre's Dry London features aromas of orange blossom, lime, jasmine and juniper. The flavour profile is distinctly junipery, with citrus and earthy notes and a warm pepperberry dry finish. 

Worth noting: 10 calories and 1.9g of sugar per 100ml.

Lyre's London Dry Collins Gin Mocktail

Also known as a John Collins, brother of the better known Tom Collins, this is a refreshing twist on an old favourite.

Ingredients: 

60 ml Lyre's Dry London Spirit
15 ml white sugar syrup (1:1)
30 ml lemon juice
60 ml soda water
Wedge of lemon
Method:
Fill a Collins or Highball glass with ice and pour ingredients into the glass and stir. Garnish with lemon wedge. 

Seadrift Non-Alcoholic Spirit

The blurb: The Seadrift non-alcoholic distilled spirit is located on Sydney's Northern Beaches and features coastal ingredients. 

The taste: Seadrift features everything you'd expect from a fresh, coastal distilled botanical drink and has notes of coriander and lime. 

Worth noting: Free from sugar and calories.

Seadrift Salty Dog Mocktail

Reminiscent of a perfect beach day  

Ingredients: 

60ml of Seadrift Classic
120ml freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
30ml of lime juice
30ml of sugar syrup
Sea salt
Chunk of lime 

Method: 

Rim a glass with sea salt and charge with ice. Pour in the ingredients and stir gently. Garnish with a chunk of lime.
