The 7 Alcohol Spirits: Your guide to the alcohol-free alternatives

Mar 16, 2022

While non-alcoholic beer and wine have been around for decades, non-alcoholic spirits is still a fairly new category. But with brands such as Sans Bar, Ms Sans, Lyres Spirits and Monday Distillery on the case there are now alcohol-free alternatives to the 7 alcohol spirits.

 1. Gin

Of all the non-alcoholic spirits, gin is by far the most popular. So it's not surprising that there are so many non-alcoholic gin options available. While the G&T is established as a classic mixed drink, there are lots of ways to enjoy your non-alcoholic gin including multiple gin mocktails

Sans Bar Notting Hill Stroll

The product: Inspired by a Dry London style gin, Notting Hill Stroll has a complex flavour profile featuring juniper notes and aromatic citrus.

How to serve: Notting Hill Stroll is best served with tonic or soda water. Garnish with a rosemary spring and a slice of orange or lemon.

What customers are saying: "The best thing about this gin is the versatility of it. I’ve paired it with both orange and rosemary and the flavours with each are so unique and take the gin in a different direction. I love gin and have missed gin most since not drinking. This is fantastic and perfect for sipping throughout the evening! Such good value for money also. Will be purchasing this as a staple to have in our non-alcoholic drinks station!"

Lyre's Dry London Spirit

The product: Capturing the essence of a classic gin, Lyre's Dry London Spirit features aromas of orange blossom, lime, jasmine and juniper along with a warm peppery finish.

How to serve: Best served with ice and a slice of lime, lemon or a sprig of rosemary.

What customers are saying: "Great substitute for gin, I've been through 3 bottles. Slight citrusy flavour, and makes a great G&T."

2. Vodka

In contrast to Gin, non-alcoholic Vodka is hard to perfect. In fact, for a long time, it was hard to find an alcohol free vodka alternative. But there was a big demand, so I set out to create my own non-alcoholic vodka.

Ms Sans Make Me A Sanstini (Non-Alc Vodka)

The product: Ms Sans Make Me A Sanstini was inspired by traditional Vodka and has a smooth, warm mouthfeel.

How to serve: Best served with tonic or soda water or as part of a classic Vodka cocktail such as a Moscow Mule. If you are looking for inspiration, try one of these Martini Mocktails

What customers are saying: "I wasn't sure about this one because it's the only non-alcoholic vodka I have seen so far, but it was very good for vodka lime and soda. I will also try and make a Cosmopolitan or Espresso Martini next time."

Non-alcoholic Cosmo mocktail garnished with two strawberries

Ms Sans Cosmopolitan

The product: The Cosmopolitan is one of the most iconic vodka cocktails and Ms Sans Cosmopolitan is the perfect premixed alcohol-free version. Made with Make Me A Sanstini non-alcoholic vodka, it features tart cranberry, zesty lime and just a hint of juicy orange.

How to serve: Add 125mls Ms Sans Cosmopolitan to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

What customers are saying: "Ms Sans Cosmo is absolutely delicious!! I can't believe that it is alcohol-free AND low in sugar! I simply pour the premix into my cocktail shaker, add ice and shake away before pouring it into my fancy cocktail glass. I would definitely recommend this tasty and fun AF cocktail to anyone who loves a good cosmopolitan but is trying to be health-conscious!"

3. Rum

Rum is a very versatile spirit and the essential ingredient for classic rum mocktails like the Dark & Stormy and the Mojito. There are a number of fantastic non-alcoholic rum alternatives available, but these are the drinks that I have in my personal collection.

Lyre's White Cane Spirit

The product: A great alternative to a white rum, Lyre's White Cane Spirit features oak and sugar cane flavours along with subtle notes of coconut, orange and marzipan.

How to serve: Best served with a mixer such as ginger beer or as part of a rum mocktail.

What customers are saying: "Lyre's White Cane Spirit is the perfect alternative to Bacardi White Rum! I bought this recently at the Freshwater store and love it. With a dash of lime and soda - so refreshing and fancy!"

Ms Sans Mojito mocktail garnished with mint and slices of lime

Ms Sans Mojito

The product: The ultimate in rum mocktails, the Mojito is a modern classic. This Ms Sans pre-mixed Mojito features Cuban inspired non-alcoholic rum along with Tahitian lime and fresh garden mint.

How to serve: Add 125mls Ms Sans Mojito to a highball glass with plenty of ice and top with soda water. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

What customers are saying: "One of the most accurate tasting n/a cocktails I’ve had since I stopped drinking. Always loved a good mojito, so it was nice to have one again. I really loved that although it’s low sugar, it didn’t have the after-taste that a lot of the other low sugar cocktails have."

4. Whiskey

Non-alcoholic whiskey is probably the hardest of all the classic spirits to emulate. But makers have come a long way and the latest alcohol-free whiskey alternatives are the best yet.

Sans Bar Kings of Tartan

The product: Inspired by Scottish Whiskey, Kings of Tartan features smoked oak and malt notes with a lingering warm finish.

How to serve: Kings of Tartan works well with classic mixers such as dry ginger or cola or in whiskey mocktails such as a Whiskey Sour or Old Fashioned.

What customers are saying: "Yay! I can finally enjoy a deliciously warm and tasteful spirit without the calories. One very good alcohol-free staple."

5. Tequila

Non-alcoholic Tequila is one of the newest spirit alternatives to hit the market and I couldn't be more delighted to be shaking up those margarita mocktails

6. Mezcal

While Mezcal is considered one of the 7 alcohol spirits, it is very similar to Tequila. In fact, Tequila is a type of Mezcal in the same way that bourbon is a type of whiskey. Mezcal is defined as any agave-based liquor.

Monday Distillery Mezcalita

The product: This ready to drink Mezcalita features mouth-watering peach soda, mandarin and finger lime along with non-alcoholic mezcal.

How to serve: You can drink this straight from the bottle, but it's best served in a salt-rimmed glass.

What customers are saying: "Perfect for our themed Mexican night, absolutely lovely! One of our new favourites."

7. Brandy

Brandy is a distilled spirit made from fermented fruit such as grapes, apples, apricots or peaches. It can be made anywhere in the world, but there are some notable styles such as Cognac, Grappa and Pisco.

At the moment there are no non-alcoholic brandy alternatives - but it is a challenge that the industry is working on - so watch this space!
