Which is the Best Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay?

Oct 07, 2022

When it comes to white wine, Chardonnay is one of Australia's favourite varietals. But how do the alcohol-free versions stack up? With so many options now available including regional, French, Organic and budget, we explore the best non-alcoholic Chardonnays available right now.

It’s fair to say that Chardonnay has been on a bit of a rollercoaster over the last few decades. First it was up, then it was down and now it’s way, way up. I’m delighted to see that Chardonnay is back in the top stop. It is an elegant wine with a complex flavour profile and full body.

Here are some of the reasons we think Chardonnay is Australia’s number one wine and which non-alcoholic Chardonnay is best.

Why non-alcoholic Chardonnay is the safe choice

Whether you’re attending a BBQ, a dinner party or afternoon tea, a chilled bottle of Chardonnay is a safe bet. It’s easy to drink, it’s unpretentious and bursting with flavour.

Being alcohol-free means that you could even show up to a kids’ playdate with a bottle in your handbag without raising any eyebrows. It’s also the perfect wine to introduce your sober curious friends to because this classic style so often tastes just like the alcoholic version.

Alcohol-Free Chardonnay for every season

A perfectly chilled Chardonnay is an easy choice on a warm day, you can drink it straight out the fridge, it’s crisp and refreshing and it is a good base for a spritzer or mocktail if you want to add soda and ice. Alc-free works well in warm weather because it won’t dehydrate you in the same way that alcoholic wine will.

Many of us swap white for red during the winter months, but thanks to its full-body and complex flavour profile, Chardonnay is actually a great choice when the temperature drops. In fact, when I’m curled up with a book and a blanket Chardonnay is my go-to wine.

Good value Chardonnay

Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay comes in at different price points ranging from $25 to under $10 but it’s possible to get a good quality bottle for under twenty dollars.

Chardonnay Pairs well with food

Another reason that Chardonnay is such a popular wine is it’s versatility – it pairs well with a wide variety of food. Whether you’re serving up mid-week vegan fare, a three-course feast, or a Sunday arvo grazing plate, Chardonnay will stand up well to different flavours and textures. It will even elevate a plate of hot chips.

Which Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay Is best?

The Next Destination 2018 McLaren Vale Chardonnay is hands down our best non-alcoholic Chardonnay. This is a one of a kind wine, aged 4 years and from the iconic McLaren Vale wine region. Recently reviewed by Australian non-alc wine expert Amy Armstrong (from Dry but Wet) as the best non-alcoholic white wine on the market with a 10/10 score. You can watch her review here:
