Recipe: BrewDog Nanny State Beer-Battered Onion Rings

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, cut into 1cm rings
  • 150g plain flour
  • 50g cornflour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 250ml chilled BrewDog Nanny State Low Carb Alcohol Free IPA
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Method

  1. Heat oil to 180°C.
  2. Separate the onion rings and lightly dust them with a little plain flour.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the plain flour, cornflour, baking powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  4. Slowly pour in the chilled BrewDog Nanny State Low Carb Alcohol Free IPA, whisking until you have a smooth batter.
  5. Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off.
  6. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crisp.
  7. Drain on a wire rack or paper towel and serve immediately.
