Australian owned, NORT, make alc-free craft beer that is full of flavour. Every beer in the NORT range is under 60 calories, making NORT the lowest calorie Australian crafted beer on the market.
NORT has been crafted by hard working Aussies, for hard working Aussies. Husband and wife team Jaz and Grant Wearin of Modus Operandi Brewery fame have brought NORT to life so they can juggle running a brewery, spending time with family and throwing back a few bevvies at the end of the day – without having to sacrifice their health or their time to a horrible hangover. Check out the FAQ below to learn more about this awesome new non-alc beer initiative…
What are the benefits of drinking beer without the alcohol?
Ok, bear with me here because there are quite a few.
Firstly, if you’re drinking non-alc bevvies, you can easily drive, go back to work, pick up parenting duties and deal with life in general, without the barriers that come with being intoxicated. It’s a safer way to drink – I’m sure we can all think of a time when we’ve been intoxicated and almost done some serious damage to ourselves or others.
No hangover means you can get up and going the next day without a second thought. You won’t be stuck in bed all day dealing with headaches, bloating or stomach gurgles. That’s a definite plus in my eyes. You also won’t feel the dehydrating effects that alcohol causes. Non-alc drinks will generally rehydrate you, rather than dehydrate.
Your overall health will thank you. Alcohol can cause some serious issues within the body, namely liver disease and heart problems (among others).
Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, people of certain religious groups, designated drivers, Dry July participants, the list goes on – beer without the alcohol is the perfect for anybody! If you are pregnant or breastfeeding though, we do advise checking in with your doctor if you have any questions or hesitations about drinking non-alc drinks.
Who owns the NORT brand and what is their experience in the industry?
NORT is owned and run by legends behind Modus Operandi Brewing. Modus Operandi was created by husband and wife team, Grant and Jaz in 2014. They’ve run their brewery out of Sydney’s northern beaches since then, picking up multiple awards for their range and recently adding NORT to their repertoire.
They’re both beer lovers of the highest order, but they lead busy lives, so they wanted to create a beer that still tastes like the real thing, minus the drawbacks of getting sloshed. They wanted a beer that could quench their thirst for a cold one but would still allow them to put the kids to bed without issue and get up bright and early the next day without a headache.
They were also recently given the go-ahead to open up a brewpub in Newcastle which is such awesome news! I’m super happy for them and I think that introducing a non-alcoholic beer to their range was a bloody genius move on their part.
What does NORT non-alcoholic beer taste like?
NORT is a super refreshing ale that tastes just a normal ale would.
It’s got a seductive, fruity aroma, a crisp finish and that tell-tale golden hue that every great ale holds.
The brewing process is similar to that of a regular beer, it’s just that the alcohol is removed before the bottling is complete.
It’s the perfect beer to pair with a chilled BBQ or a trendy event. The bottle is even designed to look just like a regular beer bottle so you don’t have to worry about snide looks from your mates if they’re the type to give you a little bit of cheek about not getting on the booze.
Can you get drunk on NORT non-alcoholic beer?
In order to be classed a non-alcoholic beverage, a drink must contain no more than 0.5% ABV. That amount is similar to levels found in fresh fruit juices.
There’s really no way for the average human being to get drunk on alc-free drinks and if someone tried, they’d have to consume so much that their bladder would likely give out before they even felt the slightest bit tipsy.
If you handed someone a NORT and told them it was an alcoholic bevvie, they may very well feel a “placebo effect”. But the minute you told them they hadn’t drunk any alcohol whatsoever, they’d “sober up” right away (and they’d probably feel a little embarrassed, to boot).
So, in short, no. NORT won’t get you hammered, or even tipsy. You’re good to go.
How many NORT products does Sans Drinks stock?
Sans Drinks stocks just the one NORT product at the moment, the delicious non-alcoholic Refreshing Ale. It’s available for purchase as a single bottle, 6-pack, 12-pack or carton of 24. This works for everyone. If you’re not yet willing to commit to the dry lifestyle, just pick up a couple to try and see if they work for you. If you’re well and truly off-the-wagon and love a good NORT, pick up a carton or two.
I’m hoping that NORT release a few more non-alc options in future, but I haven’t heard anything to confirm that as yet. I’ll definitely keep you updated though.
Does NORT use “good” ingredients in its beer?
NORT Refreshing Ale is made with plant-based ingredients which really speaks to the health aspects and the quality of ingredients that go into this delicious drop. On top of that, it’s low-cal PLUS the product is Aussie made and owned so you know you’re getting a true-blue beer.
Why should you drink NORT Refreshing Ale?
Let’s go over the list of reasons, shall we?
The people who craft NORT have been in the busines for a loooong time and they’re HUGE beer aficionados. They know what they’re about when it come to making a great tasting drop.
NORT is a healthier alternative to regular beer due to its lower calories, plant-based ingredients and the fact that it doesn’t contain any alcohol. Rehydrate instead of dehydrating. No alcohol means you’re not pumping your body full of a substance that is a known diuretic (meaning it stimulates your body to remove fluids – that’s why there’s no escape from the dreading “breaking the seal” on a drunken night out).
Enjoy the convenience of being able to drive home from a catch up with friends and not have to worry about what embarrassing text messages you sent to your ex the night before.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – NO HANGOVER. Need I say more?
Is NORT planning on expanding their range?
They’ve bowled us all over with their debut bevvie, a seriously Refreshing Ale but they’ve not yet hinted at whether they plan on expanding their range.
Of course, as soon as I hear anything, I’ll be keeping you in the loop and stocking the Sans Drinks shelves faster that you can say, “Pass me a cold one.”
