So far, there is no non-alcoholic Champagne made in the Champagne region. But, having said that, there are plenty of excellent non-alcoholic champagne alternatives — including the best non-alcoholic sparkling wine from Australia, Spain and yes, France.

In this guide, I will introduce you to the best non-alcoholic sparkling options, so that whatever the occasion, you can experience all the best tasting non-alcoholic champagne alternatives for yourself.

1. Next Destination 2021 Langhorne Creek Blanc de Blanc

The product

Created by Australian winemakers Next Destination Wines, Langhorne Creek Blanc de Blanc is a premium alcoholic Langhorne Creek sparkling wine that has undergone alcohol removal. When people ask me what is the best non-alcoholic sparkling wine, this is the one that’s at the top of my list, it’s simply the best non-alcoholic sparkling wine Australia has made.

The taste

Langhorne Creek Blanc de Blanc is one of the best tasting non-alcoholic champagne alternatives on the market. It has a dry flavour profile and crisp palate and features flavours of toasted brioche, fresh blossom and green apple.

Worth noting

This non-alcoholic Champagne alternative is both low in calories (17 calories per 100 ml) and sugar (2.5g per 100 ml). It’s also vegan-friendly.

Try this

If you enjoy a good cheese and non-alcoholic wine pairing, try Langhorne Creek Blanc de Blanc with a plate of triple cream Brie and enriched crackers. The toasted brioche notes in the non-alcoholic sparkling wine will enhance the toasty notes in your cheese.

2. Thomson & Scott Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay

The product

Amanda Thomson, the founder of Thomson & Scott, studied the craft of winemaking at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu School in France and went on to create Noughty, a globally revered non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Featured in both the New York Times and BBC Good Food, Noughty has been described as a world-leading alcohol-free alternative to Champagne.

The taste

Thomson & Scott Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay is made with premium Chardonnay grapes grown in Southern Spain. It features aromas of freshly cut apples and a crisp, dry finish.

Worth noting

This non-alcoholic sparkling wine is low in calories (14 calories per 100 ml) and vegan-friendly.

The Noughty Peach Virgin Bellini Mocktail is one of my favourite non-alcoholic champagne mocktails. It’s simple, elegant and delicious. If you’re pressed for time, you can create this mocktail using a Bellini Cipriani

3. Odd Bird Blanc de Blancs Sparkling White

The product

Odd Bird was founded in 2013 by Moa Gürbüzer, who set out to change drinking culture and alcohol norms by creating world-class non-alcoholic wine. Odd Bird Blanc de Blancs Sparkling White non-alcoholic Champagne alternative is crafted from Chardonnay grapes grown in France and aged in barrels before undergoing de-alcoholisation.

The taste

Odd Bird Blanc de Blancs Sparkling White has a distinct champagne-like profile which makes it one of the best non-alcoholic Champagne alternatives available. Expect an extra dry profile along with notes of crisp green apple, citrus and brioche.

Worth noting

This non-alcoholic sparkling wine is low in calories (18 calories per 100 ml).

A French-made non-alcoholic Champagne alternative calls for a classic French mocktail. The Notting Hill French 75 Mocktail has a gin-infused citrus taste with a dry, bubbly finish. You can make this with any non-alcoholic gin, but I’ve been using Sans Bar Notting Hill Stroll which gives the mocktail some extra complexity.

4. Barton & Guestier French Sparkling

The product

Barton & Guestier have been making wine in Bordeaux for more than 200 years, making them one of France’s oldest wine houses. So you’re in safe hands with their award-winning non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Barton & Guestier French Sparkling is made with traditional winemaking techniques and then de-alcoholised.

The taste

Barton & Guestier French Sparkling is a bestseller here at Sans Drinks and many of my customers tell me it’s the best non-alcoholic sparkling wine they’ve tried. Expect a refreshing palate with fine bubbles along with fruity and floral aromas.

Worth noting

While this non-alcoholic sparkling wine doesn’t classify as low calorie (Food Standards Australia guidelines classify this as under 19 calories per 100 ml), at 20 calories per 100 ml it has significantly fewer calories than a typical alcoholic champagne. This non-alcoholic Champagne alternative is also vegan-friendly.

Try this

If you’re serving this non-alcoholic Champagne alternative as a pre-dinner drink, try pairing it with an appetiser such as cream cheese canapés. Or keep it really simple with a dish of salted potato chips — the acidity in the non-alcoholic sparkling wine will cut through the fat in the chips, enhancing the flavour of both the chips and the Barton & Guestier French Sparkling.

5. Tread Softly Everything Except Prosecco

The product

Tread Softly is an Australian-made wine that is handcrafted with a unique ultra-membrane method. Tread Softly Everything Except Prosecco has been made with sustainably grown Prosecco grapes grown in South Australia. It’s a new non-alcoholic sparkling wine, hitting the shelves earlier this year, but it already has multiple five-star reviews.

The taste

This non-alcoholic sparkling wine has been made in the traditional Prosecco style. It has a vibrant, full flavour with fine bubbles along with a crisp citrus flavour.

Worth noting

This non-alcoholic sparkling wine is low in calories (14 calories per 100 ml) and low in sugar (2.5g per 100 ml). It’s also vegan-friendly. In terms of the non-alcoholic sparkling wine Australia produces, this is one of the most sustainable. Tread Softly plants an Australian native tree for every six bottles sold.

If you’re looking for a new way to enjoy this non-alcoholic sparkling wine, try a Prosecco Cosmopolitan Mocktail. All the sass of a Ms Sans Cosmopolitan topped with Prosecco. It’s a great way to add a little sparkle to a classic mocktail.

6. Plus & Minus Blanc de Blancs NV

Plus & Minus is an Australian non-alcoholic wine brand based in South Australia. They craft their wines with high-quality grapes. This non-alcoholic champagne alternative has been crafted with Chardonnay, Sémillon and Colombard grapes.

The taste

For a special occasion, try this Breakfast Mocktail. It is a simple mocktail with the aroma, mouthfeel and taste of a classic mimosa, complete with bubbles and a citrusy tang.
